ARRL Kids Day Reno area.
http://www.arrl.org/kids-day
We will operate from Washoe Valley on the WADG repeaters system.
Repeaters are:
147.030 PL 123
147.150 PL 100
147.210 PL 100
We will operate a HF station, and will publish HF frequency on the above repeaters.
Kids Day is an on-air event to encourage young people (licensed or not) to have fun with Amateur Radio. It is designed to give on-the-air experience to youngsters and hopefully foster interest in getting a license of their own. It is also intended to give older hams a chance to share their station and love for Amateur Radio with their children.
It is a good idea, but not a requirement to declare "3rd party communication" and introduce the child.
As long as there is a licensed control operator present, he/she use the control operators call sign.
We will yield the frequency to the "noon Net", however the netcontrol may invite "Kids Day" stations to check in.
The repeaters will be open for regular use, and the more people on the repeaters, the merrier.
Suggested exchange is Name, age, location and favorite color, but let the kid talk about whatever he/she want to talk about.
Important:
Ham radio is supposed to be FUN, there will be made errors, and that is OK.
The control operator may correct any mistakes the child does, if needed.
For HF this is the ARRL suggested frequencies:
10 Meters: 28.350 to 28.400 MHz
12 Meters: 24.960 to 24.980 MHz
15 Meters: 21.360 to 21.400 MHz
17 Meters: 18.140 to 18.145 MHz
20 Meters: 14.270 to 14.300 MHz
40 Meters: 7.270 to 7.290 MHz
80 Meters: 3.740 to 3.940 MHz
Be sure to observe third-party restrictions when making DX QSOs.
