Joe (bilt4comfort) is starting a planning thread for the next samdog3 run in September:

Here is a portion of the post:
The event will be a little bit different...and I'm gonna need as much help, if not more than you all so graciously contributed last year. It would be awesome if the Ham Radio guys could participate once again.
Figured I would get this thread going so we can be up to speed when the time comes.

I am interested, do we have a date for this yet?

The date is Sunday, September 5th, 2010. I will post additional planning details in a day or so.
I missed this last year because it's on Labor Day weekend. Not sure if I can commit to help out this year either.
Moved thread to Upcoming Events forum.

The date is Sunday, September 5th, 2010.
We will be supporting this event and will add some additional technical capabilities based on our post event debriefing from last year.
I will be the event coordinator again this year and Gary W7TXR will again be our mountain top net control. We are hoping to have some MCECG support in the valley as we did last year.
The event this year will require more hams than last year. The new technical capabilities will focus on cross-band repeaters and APRS Digipeaters.
All 4x4 Ham members are welcome; we will have an assignment for you.
I will start two additional threads to cover:
(1) Pre-planning for additional technical capabilities -- http://www.4x4ham.com/showthread.php...Exercise&p=563
(2) Event participation signup -- http://www.4x4ham.com/showthread.php?132-Samdog-2010-Event
You can participate in the pre-planning or the event participation or both, whatever works for you. If you don’t have any experience in cross-band repeaters or APRS Digipeaters don’t let that deter you, use this as a learning experience.
What about asking the ARA to use one of their portable repeaters. Would that help us?

Let's see what our inventory looks like from the event sign ups. We might be able to make use of it or be able to handle it ourselves.

It would be nice to have a 4x4 Ham table setup at the finish line, similar to what we do at a Hamfest. Maybe a 2m/70 rig, APRS demo, HF rig, etc….
Thoughts?

This is a good idea David, we should also include information on how to become a Ham radio operator. When they see the difference between CB and Ham, they may be interested.

We need some cheap flyers...how to get a ticket... or something.

The ARA has given us permission to use their UHF portable repeater for the Samdog Run. We still have to work out some details with them as far as manning it while deployed.

This sounds good. Should be simpler than the crossband repeat.

Virgil,
Are you going to be able to coordinate getting the repeater tested, obtain frequencies, and deployment?
I can help out with manning portable repeater site and setting up a 4x4 Ham info booth.
Are we still short help? How many hams were you looking for?

We currently have 3 signed up; the list is at the end of the 1st post. AZVJC currently has 26 signed up; this will change as we get closer to the event date.
I'll close the signup thread on 8/27 so I can put together a communication plan with the resources available at that point.
