Maybe we should get a weekend morning net going?
75 or 40 m would be a good place to meet and do some yapping?
I'd give it a try depending upon time.

I'd love to see a regular HF net get going. 40 would be better for me since I don't currently have an antenna configured/configurable for 80.

I agree, 40m would be better.

I will try to be listening. I've got my G59 receiving at least. It's awesome so far (with no other radios or experience to compare it to.) I've got to get another receiver to get my transmit and LO images nulled. If there's anyone out there who would like to do an A-B comparison with a really good radio, and maybe help me with the final calibration, I'd love to see how it matches up.

I put up a 40 m vertical with my Buddipole that tuned up pretty nice, I'll be listening/calling on 7.200 MHz in the morning by 0800 CST (1300 UTC)

7.200 MHz is being used by a 9/11 special event station today (Sunday 9/11). 7.210 appears to be open right now (1215 Zulu).

I called and listened for about 20 minutes on 7.210 MHz but didn't hear anyone. Only running 100 watts though -

I only tried it one day (last Sunday) myself. I'm out on a drilling rig again and didn't bring my HF radio and antenna with me like last time, and I won't be back home until after the weekend probably but I will watch this thread for future developments when I do get back.

I can hear someone else's QSO faintly, but there is a lot of static on the band for me.

Deaf on 40m here today. But I'm on a 31' vertical at the side of the house, so it's hit or miss with weak signals.

I'll be listening on 7.185 - 7.200 MHz in the morning (Saturday 9/24) again. One of these times we will make contact. I believe this is the weekend for the Texas QSO party though, so some bands may be crowded. I'm not participating myself; got too many other things to do.

I called CQ for about 30 minutes, alternating between 7.200 and 7.185; talked to guys in Houston and Lake Sam Rayburn in east Texas. The band is getting pretty crowded now so I quit calling but I'll listen for a while longer before I have to start mowing grass.
Edit at 1400 Zulu: 7.200 is now packed solid with the Texas QSO Party, no chance of getting through now. :(

Leif, thanks for trying. I guess propagation on 40 is not great between Nevada and Texas this time of morning. Maybe we could try 17 or 20 meters? I won't be here (or with an HF radio) until Thursday morning; have to make a quick trip to west Texas and then Denver and back.

Leif, currently my only antenna is a Buddipole on the ground near my shack; it takes some fiddling and tuning to switch bands, but I had to go do some mowing anyway. Like I said, I'll be on the road and unavailable for a few days or a week, but when I get back I will re-set the Buddipole for 20 m and let you know.
73,
Lee
