In the member list, why do some members have their name under their user name and some (like me) have "Junior Member" under the user name. I looked on the site and couldn't find (or maybe didn't see) the reason.

I asked that question too; have yet to get a reply ......

Pretty sure it just means that we haven't made very many posts on the new forum yet.

Actually if you look at the member list thee are some who have a name, nickname or what-have-you that don't have any posts. Not sure what the difference is but I'm not too worried about it...

Since I also run a vBulletin system I have an idea how this works. When setup, vBulletin allows for automatic member categories, based on the number of posts you've made. I suspect everyone here starts as a Junior Member.

The site administrator can also give any individual a special membership status, which allows people with special positions on the site to stand out.

This can be changed.... in the upper right corner of any page you'll see "settings" right next to "log out". Click on settings and then edit profile - you may change the "Junior Member" to your name if you wish.

I don't think that the field is locked. You should be able to change it. Please let us know if any questions. Hope that helps.

Well Gary I hate to break it to ya but when I went to check it out I could not find anywhere that the 'junior member' was able to be changed/edited. I checked every link under the profile options just to be sure so unless I'm even more blind in the one eye than I thought it doesn't look like this is something we can currently do. Again I'm not worried about it, just trying to figure it out for the other folks.

Yep, you're right. I went back and checked the setting area. The "Custom Title" is set to assign automatically. After 30 posts it should change from "Junior Member" to "Member". Not sure why some are different unless they have been assigned by an admin or moderator.

There are possible other options how this custom title field is used..... We'll put it on our to-do discussion list.

I'm not all that concerned about it either. I was just curious since my buddy, K6FQ, has his name and I don't think he's posted since the changeover. Not a big deal.

Thanks,
Steve

At the top right, click on "Settings". Then, click on "Edit Profile" on the left side of the screen. Then, look for the area to set "Custom User Title". I think this should be able to be changed by anyone at any time.

K7VZ doesn't know what he is talking about. Apparently only administrators can change to a "Custom User Title".

Ok, here is how it is currently set. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has better titles that you would like added.

Title -- Post Count
Junior Member -- 0-29
Member -- 30-99
Senior Member -- 100+

Sorry Virgil, I didn't mean to start such a ruckus about this. I just wanted to have my first name under my callsign instead of "junior member" like some other members have. But, it's not that big a deal. And as far as the "TE5T" posting, I don't agree with the tone of the post.

Thanks,
Steve, W6TWL

May suggest we use the following designations:
Lid
Lil Sparky
Big Gun

LOL...just kidding

Actually Randy I like those suggestions, although maybe we could change 'Big Gun' to 'Ragchewer Extrodinaire' ;)

Oh and Steve, I think TE5T might actually be Virgil *in disguise*...

Kevin, I guess that I was more tired than I thought when I wrote that.

No disguise. That's my "non-administrator" test account.

Seriously though, changing the "level" titles is something that can be done. We should come up with some better ones. Maybe "Elmer" as one? We should probably keep them to titles that are non-offensive to newbies to the site even though Randy has some good ones. haha.

I had my name there previously, but it changed back to junior member when I changed to my new call sign (KD7ADC -> K3BLS). I couldn't find any place under settings to change it either. Oh well, NBD. I guess I'll just have to reply more often.

I updated the user titles. We can add more than 3 levels. I'm still open to suggestions if anyone has better names for post levels? I don't want to create a structure that encourages frivolous posting just to get better title rank though. It's all about quality, not quantity.

Bump for post count! LOL...sorry.

Well, the new 4x4 title is less ... junior-seeming :-)
I dunno, Virgil. Isn't a system based on post counts likely to encourage posts regardless of perceived 'quality?' It would seem that is the nature of the beast.
