Last year's testing session at Field Day was a big hit, so we'll do it again this year. The test session will be held Saturday at 9am this year instead of 2pm so it's not during the contest that starts at 11am. For anyone that plans to test, here is your notice to get out those books and materials and study. We will provide testing for all 3 levels (Technician, General, and Extra). Walk-ins will be allowed, but please pre-register here so we can guarantee enough supplies.

Please provide your name, lowest level you plan on testing for, and existing call sign if you have one.
To sign up, post below and we'll add you to this list.

Standard ARRL VEC Rules Apply (http://www.arrl.org/what-to-bring-to-an-exam-session)

ON EXAM DAY BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

1. A legal photo ID (driver’s license, passport).

2. When no photo ID is available, two forms of identification must
be presented:
a. non-photo ID/driver's license (some states still have them)
b. birth certificate (must have the appropriate seal)
c. social security card
d. library card
e. utility bill, bank statement or other business correspondence that
specifically names the person; or a postmarked envelope addressed
to the person at his or her current mailing address as it appears on
the Form 605.

3. Students may bring any of the above items and/or a school ID, minor's
work permit, report card, or a legal guardian may present a photo ID.

4. Bring your Social Security Number (SSN) or your FCC issued Federal
Registration Number (FRN). VEC’s are required by the FCC to submit
either your SSN or your FRN number with your license application
form. If you prefer not to give your SSN at the exam session, then
you may register your SSN with the FCC before exam day. Once you
have a FCC issued FRN, you may no longer use your SSN on the
application. For instructions on how to register your SSN with the
FCC and receive a FRN, visit the FCC's FAQ page and the
FCC's registration instructions page. Please note that some
exam teams will only accept a valid FRN on your application. Check
with your local exam team before exam day.

5. If applicable, bring the original and a photocopy of your current Amateur
Radio license and any Certificates of Successful Completion of
Examination (CSCE) you may hold from previous exam sessions. The
photocopy(s) will not be returned.

6. Two number two pencils with erasers and a pen.

7. A calculator with the memory erased and formulas cleared is allowed.
You may not bring any written notes or calculations into the exam session.
Slide rules and logarithmic tables are acceptable, as long as they're free
of notes and formulas. Cell phone must be silenced or turned off during
the exam session and the phones' calculator function may not be used.
In addition, iPhones, iPads, Androids, smartphones, Blackberry devices
and all similar electronic devices with a calculator capability, may NOT
be used.

8. Bring a check, a money order or cash to cover the exam session fee(s).
Exam fee ($15).

I've put the challenge before Marcia to upgrade to General at our FD testing session. It looks like I'm going to need some help getting her to accept the challenge. Haha.

Only one testee signed up so far? C'mon, I know we have more out there that can test? Let's recruit friends and family to take the Technician test.

Yea, good luck with Marcia. Girls can't pass the general, we all know that. Besides we need her to clean up camp, not talk on the radio with the men. :)

I fixed your comment according to her main objection.

Bought the Extra study guide book and I've been torturing myself with it for the last week. Actually passed one practice test (out of a dozen so far, haha.)

As long as it isn't an issue being signed up as a VE as well (or if there are enough other VE's that I won't be needed in that capacity) I think I'll be taking a crack at Extra.

I think we have it covered. I'd rather see you pass the Extra element.

Unless they continue to slack, I'm hoping to drag along one for a general upgrade, and two n00bs for technician. :o

Aw heck, public pressure is always a good motivator, right? Based on that theory, I'll just call out the two people I plan to drag along to the test session:

Danny Tangtam - KF7QWK - Upgrade to General
Ed Swann - N/A - Technician

And it's still anybody's guess if I'll manage to cram enough to pass extra, but I'm still gonna try =)

Congratulations to Melinda and Joann for passing their Technician test and to Adam for passing Extra. The packet was mailed back to the ARRL yesterday and I'll notify everyone when I see the information processed by the FCC.

Well damn, now that I've passed all of the exam elements, and thrown in the VE test for good measure, I'm just about out of stuff to study for =) Guess I could move learning Morse code up on the to-do list a little bit. =)

You got it! Become a "know code" Extra. Actually, knowing Morse code is like being bisexual. It doubles your chances of scoring in contests. :)

Seriously, congrats to everyone who got their ticket or upgrade at Field Day this year. I got my Extra last year at Field Day and have really loved being able to mine DX out of the bottom portion of the bands. It was also a thrill to put in the time to get VE certification so that I could share the fun with others. For all of you, I am sure that's one Field Day you will never forget.

Congratulations to Verl K7WOA who is finally a General. He passed his Technician test in 1966 and showed up at our FD testing trying to get upgraded under Pre-87 rules. It took a few months of back and forth to get proof that he was originally licensed in 1966, but with the final letter from the FCC stating so, his upgrade has been processed.
