Details:
When: 03:15 9/26/10 UTC, the same time as the Wednesday night net on the repeater.
Frequency: Lower portion of the General band, around 7.175 to 7.200 depending on QRM. When we have found an open frequency I will post it in the chat room.
Format: I will begin with a roll call of members who have signed up for the event, followed by a request for relays for any station not heard by Net Control. Then an open call for other stations wishing to participate in the Net.

Most of the events posted in this forum have been 4X4 events, but let's remember that this group is 4X4Ham. So let's post some Ham Radio events as well. Our weekly net serves our Phoenix area members very well, but I would like to give our Out of State and DX members a chance to be heard also. We have tried taking HF check-ins during our weekly VHF net, but this has not worked out very well.
Let's start this event on Saturday, 9/25/10, on 40 meters in the General band, exact time and frequency to be determined later.
Please sign up for this event in this forum. I will update this post with the names and call signs of those who sign up for this event.
Please sign up here if you have HF capability and are interested in this event.

East coast, where are you? C'mon guys, this is your chance to check in on HF.

Also, any stations in AZ that don't have HF capability are welcome to come over to my house during this net.

If I am not working I will give it a try. I would even be into making a run up to the rim or some high ground.

That would be fun to try, but I have a big offroad event to attend that day...maybe next time.

I could be interested depending on the time and frequency. That weekend I'll be camping so I'm pretty much stuck around 7.178+-30khz.

Ok, I traded Train for Tom Petty and am good to go. Time of day will determine if I head up to the mountains or not because of an early start the next day. Ether way I will most likely be in my Mobile.

This event did not go as planned. At least 4 stations attempted contact on 40 meters, at least that is how many made it to the chat room. I could hear Virgil, K7VZ, but not well. Tom, AD7TI, said he could hear both Virgil and I. The only out of state station in the chat room, Glen, N7YQC, could not hear any of us, and we could not hear him.

Suggestions for the next HF Net or Roundtable event are welcomed. I am thinking about 20 meter phone, 10 meter phone, or a PSK31 event.

My thanks to Virgil, K7VZ; Tom, AD7TI; and Glen, N7YQC for participating in this attempt. If any other stations attempted to join us, let us know what happened and if you were able to hear any of us.

I'd say give it another go. I made the mistake of not writing down the sked info ahead of time. With the site down over the weekend.....I was sunk. I'd bet the same happened to others as well.

I would also recommend trying it a little earlier. By that late in the day 40 is pretty noisy.

Yeah, 40m was useless last Saturday night. I think Richard and I actually made contact on 20m 14.244 after discussing the frequency change in the chat room. I know it didn't help having the forums down as a lot of people missed the update that was posted.

Sorry, I couldn't make it. I'm up for trying it again.

I tried but had no luck either from Tempe, AZ. :(

I defiantly think it is worth another go. I agree that it may have to be an earlier event. Maybe have a plan for a primary band and secondary band in place encase one is not open. Plan to start out on 40m and if it is not working plan to have a second time set up to move down to 20m may be 15 minutes latter. We would know pritty quickly if 40m is not working out. If the primary band seems to be working than we stick to that one.

This time of year 40 is going to work better in the early evening and up til around 9pm. 20m is going to shut down as soon as daylight is lost at this time of year. The old saying "20 days and 40 nights" is going to be more applicable as the days get shorter. Two months ago I was logging DX well into the night. I still here the KH's and JA's occasionally after about 8pm here, but it's happening less and less as the daylight hours shorten.
JMO and YMMV.

Are we gonna give this another shot?
