Trip report from January 30, 2010
Made it up and back in 4 hours. Killed at least an hour winching a downed tree off the trail and then winching me unstuck from sliding off the road while pulling previously mentioned tree. I think Randy has pictures of that fiasco.
The ARA has a damaged repeater up there and they were complaining that it would be months before it was repaired because it was impossible to get up there with all the snow. Randy and I took that as a challenge to see if we could do it or not. So, depending on what the ARA officials say, we'll probably be shuttling them up there in the next week or so to repair the repeater. (They think one of the antennas was taken out by ice/snow/wind.)
First glimpse of snow on the way up.

Looking north towards the Mogollon Rim. You can see it covered in snow.

A pit stop on the way up.

Made it to the gate. Mt. Ord antennas are another half mile up the road.

Randy making simplex contacts. Spoke to one guy north of Prescott and a handful of others in the Phoenix area. At least 2 were running less than 5 watts power on handhelds.

View looking towards the south from the top. Phoenix is down there somewhere.

Stuck Dodge on the way down. We had to help get them off the road.
