Ok.. the older FJ is nice. I would love to have one like that. The rear rack is very nice... I may have to build a new bumper on my XJ to incorporate something like that....

Thanks guys. That rear bumper w/ dual swing-outs is not stock of course, I bought it pre-made from Man-A-Fre in California. The passenger-side basket will hold a Coleman cooler perfectly if I don't have to carry jerry cans. They're hard to see in those photos, but I mounted my 2M/70CM antenna on the spare tire carrier and a CB antenna on the jerry can basket. Unfortunately for you guys, Man-A-Fre doesn't make that bumper (or anything else) for Jeeps. The design is quite simple though - it's a piece of heavy-wall 2" square tubing a little wider than the frame with two shorter pieces of the same size square tubing mounted on heavy spindles on each end. The rear of the FJ40 frame is flat and straight across so the bottom square tubing bolts to the frame with three heavy duty flat mounts that keep the bumper and swing-outs away from the body. It weighs 180 lbs. and is very solidly built.

The tire off to one side is unique to Rovers and FJ's, I think. I have never seen a setup like that for a Jeep.

Wish I still had mine. I bought a FJ40 new in 1976 , had it for 11 years and sold it. That was one of the dumbest things I ever did. Very dependable , go anywhere.

This is the only pic I have on this PC. She is still pretty stock, but have some new tires and sliders on the way.

Go Toyota's,

Here in Australia the most popular 4x4's are Toyota's and Nissan's

It seems the FJs are becoming very popular. We had 3 of them on a trail run I was on last Saturday, it was the first time I had seen them in action on some obstacles.

Just realized that I have very few glamor shots of my FJ. Gonna have to work on that. In the meantime...
