Day Trip - Road Trip - Saturday Jan. 8, 2011

My brother is flying in tomorrow for the weekend and heading back home on Sunday. We wanted to head up to our property in Ash Fork and do a little hiking and sightseeing. I spoke to my neighbor up there last Saturday and he said there is 4-5 inches of snow on the ground. Access is about 2.5 hour drive from Phoenix and 10 miles of unmaintained gravel road.

Plans for the day included stopping in Prescott on the way up and checking things out. Maybe even eat early lunch at The Palace or local restaurant. Then, to Ash Fork for 2-3 hours. Planned route to return home could go through Flagstaff and down 89A through Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona. Alternate would be to take Perkinsville Road from Paulden to Jerome.

The day will mostly include pavement, but sightseeing along the way. Anybody else want to tag along?

I would be interested in this. Can the whole family come along? Will there be time to play in the snow once in Ash Fork? What time would you be leaving on Saturday and what route are you going to drive?

The whole family is welcome. We will have time at the property to play in the snow if there still is any (its been in the mid-40's this week). Times and itinerary are flexible, but we were thinking of leaving Phx at around 8 AM. The route would be up I-17 to Cordes Jct., then Hwy 69 to Prescott, then 89 North through Chino Valley and Paulden to Ash Fork.

Where did you want to meet up for this? I'm coming from Surprise so my normal route north has me taking New River Road and getting on I-17 there. How about meeting at the dirt area under the freeway at New River/I17? Also, my wife wants to know if your wife is going so she is not outnumbered...LOL.

Sorry Virgil but I am going to have to back out on this. Too many things with the kids going on right now and the wife said its a no go due to that.
