I'd eventually like to get one of those roof top tents to put on my M101
However there price tag is a bit steep so until I have that kind of $ I'm going the "poor mans" route!

The goal is to create a platform big enough to set my 7'x7' tent.
So tonight I bought some plywood and made 2 wood covers / platforms.
One will secure to the trailer and the other will fasten to that (fold open) but also hinged on the trailer too so I can still have access inside.

So tonight the wood was cut & secured & tomorrow Ill try and make some kind of legs to support the fold open part.
Here's some quick pictures of tonight's work

Ended up missing the weather spotters class :(
But think I got this platform knocked out & ready to go!
I'll get pictures up tonight.

Okay a day late...
Ended up getting the tent secured to the platform and the support legs made.
Tent will be secured by two 1" wood screws and 1/2 conduit clamps bent to fit
Also water sealed the wood and added / made access door to gain access to the inside of the trailer.

All he needs is a Bumper Dumper :

Very nice build!
FYI: I'm sure you are aware but so others understand and there is no confusion. That is either a U.S. M-416 trailer or Canadian M-101, they look nearly identical. It is more rare and sought after than the larger U.S. M-101.
It's a good grab, lot's of Jeep guys want them!

Group buy back in April of 2007
23 of us bought Canadian Army M-101 they sat in customs for almost 2 weeks then we had a hell of a time getting them titled / registered as Canada only does "bill of sale" and not a title of ownership (THAT made for fun @ the DMV office)
As thread title states... M101 :)

That is an awesome find and well worth the troubles of customs and the DMV.
If I stepped on toes I apologize. I figured you knew what it was. I just didn't want someone reading the thread, purchasing a U.S. 101 not knowing the differences and thinking they are getting a similar trailer to yours.
I know of a few buddies that want to do exactly what you have done but can't find a 416 or Canadian 101. If you know of anyone wanting to part with their trailer let me know, I may have a buyer for them.

Ha!
No toes stepped on, just clarifying the clarification :D

I have the M416 & also want a RTT but the price exceeds my moral limits, I am frugal

I like what you have done & may copy that design if you dont mind , imitation is the best form of flattery

are you going to protect the wood ? I see you weather sealed it but it only looks liek the top side, you could always give it a coating of hurculiner or that outdoor carpeting or both

I thought about the truck bed tents too like this :
