This morning, we added a new feature to 4x4Ham.com. Downloads. You can access it through the button on the top navigation bar or by direct link. http://www.4x4ham.com/downloads.php

Anyone can upload files (They are moderated before becoming visible to everyone). To keep the content somewhat private/protected, only registered users can download. Thanks for the testing help of David K7DCL and Richard N7IYT, we've decided to go live with this upgrade today.

If you have suggestions for additional uses of this feature, please let us know. What other categories or file types should we add?

Initial settings are:
Categories:

4x4 Ham Files - Official 4x4 Ham Files
Net Audio - Recordings from 4x4 Ham Nets.
GPS Files - Mapping, Topo, and all GPS data.
Radio Programming and Frequency Info - Radio Programming Data or Frequency Lists

File Types:

tpo
gdb
mp3
gpx
kml
kmz
txt
doc
docx
xls
xlsx
csv
pdf
mc2 (Kenwood D710)
fx (Kenwood F6A)
2k0 (Kenwood TS-2000)

Additional feedback welcome.

Thanks for enabling this downloads section. I added GPS tracks from some of our trail runs in GPX format to get things started. I will look through my files and see what else I have that the group might be interested in.

I've now enabled it to allow all Registered Users to upload files to the Downloads (http://www.4x4ham.com/downloads.php) section. The files will be moderated, so they will not appear immediately.

Ok, I'll keep watching for new uploads.

Bump. This is a great feature. Everyone please chip in and share your files with the group. I'd like to see this used more.

I was going to look at some of these files and see if I could upload them to my GPS with Garmin's Map Source but can not seem to open the .gpx file formate. Any one have any ideas?

You can open a .gpx file in your favorite text editor (Notepad/Wordpad, gedit, vi, etc.) and look at the data. If you need to convert the file to another format to work with your GPS, GPSBabel works very well:

Well I figured it out. :bacon: If I down load the gpx file it gets corupted along the way and will not open. If I open it from the wed page into EaseyGPS and save the gpx file then I can open it up in MapSource just fine.

Only had to bang my head against it for a little while. Thank for pointing me in a right direction Kurt.
