I've been using an AH-4 for about 6 years on my 706MKIIG as a base and portable op and it does a fantastic job . I've used it on end fed wires , and also with 300 and 450 ohm twinlead to feed loops and doublets . I've even used 80 feet of cheap speaker wire from RadioShack , split it for 50 feet or so , length doesnt really matter, and used that for a quick and dirty doublet when portable . Another favorite setup I like is a 16 1/2 foot collapsible fishing pole on an old RatShack roof mount tripod , 30 some feet of wire as a sloper and a ground radial . It collapses to a small package to throw in the Jeep when out trailing . I highly recommend the AH-4 , its kind of pricey but its a very versatile coupler . I havent gotten around to mounting it permanantly as a mobile in a vehicle yet , but it should work FB .

Bob, great minds think alike. I keep experimenting my portable vert-sloper. Also have a roof tripod from the neighbors yardsale. $3.
