I just thought I would post up how I installed my radio and GPS for use with APRS. Automatic Postition Reporting System. Its a Ham radio geek thing that sends out your location to a series of radio towers and displays it on a map on a web site in real time. </Non-geek speak> If I don't make it back from a wheelin trip, the rescue team will be able to see my last location.

Nice install, but how you going to keep the base unit form getting on your next river crossing. ;)

I've got my D700 mounted in the same spot. I believe I saw your post somewhere before, which gave me the idea. A lot easier to mount it there than behind the am/fm radio. I think it get more Air Circulation too under the steering wheel.
Thanks KC0NNT!

I thought about high water, but if that much water gets in my Jeep, I will have a lot more problems than a wet radio.

LOL, very true.

Leonard, ha ha, you are very funny. I would've been fine if I had the sense to put my doors on.

I have my radios installed under the driver's seat. Much worse location for deep water crossings than where you have it.

Doors are kind of like a rain jacket. You never realize you need them until after you are wet. ;)

Gonna have to try my 700 in that spot. I currently have it wedged between the passenger seat and middle consol. Great idea for a mount! Paul

What kind of antenna are you using?

I use a Diamond dual-bander. Works good and stands up to tree branches well.
