I found the case at Bass Pro Shops in the the marine section. They also had black and white. It is powered by the DC power supply or an 7.5 aH battery located behind control head. It also has powerpoles to connect to any external 12v source. A $2 hamfest speaker and old RV volt meter finish it off. I will upgrade it to the Watts Up meter someday.

The mic and manual fit neatly iside when the lid is closed.

I made a 170 mile 2m simplex contact with this radio and a portable beam while camping!

UPDATE: Got the Watts Up meter, painted mounting board, collected dust inside case.

Very cool, Randy. I'm getting things together to build one of these for myself. What size (physical) battery did you include in the box? Did you set it up to be able to charge it without removing the battery? Any other modifications to the box itself?

I got lucky with the battery, it happens to fit perfectly in the box. To charge the battery, just plug in and turn on the Power supply, easy.
I also had to modify the lid so i could remove it from the box. Optional.

POst up what you end up making.

Randy, this is very nice. When using your DC power supply, do you get any 'hum' noise from the power supply?? It seems to me that I have tried this one time and I had terrible noise - probably a POS power supply I was using. One thing I did not have was a battery connected at the same time - maybe it would have helped with the noise. The noise I am referring to came through the speaker and made a 'hum' noise.
