This is a brief review of the TW2010L Backpacker Antenna. This is a portable vertical antenna covering 10,12,15,17 and 20m. The TW2010L is the manual bandswitching version of the TW2010 Adventurer. http://transworldantennas.com/
Summary: Highly recommended, great to throw in the back of the Jeep. I don't see my Buddiepole system getting much, if any, use in the future.
Pros:
Very high quality heavy duty construction.
Super fast setup and take down. I timed this setup at 11 minutes even, and this included taking the pictures and putting out 100' of RG213. I was not rushing...
Fast/Easy band switching.
Very flat SWR. I never saw worse than 1:1.5 across the phone portion of 10, 15, and 20m without a tuner.
Very good performance.
Cons:
On the expensive side. Comparable to a Deluxe Buddiepole dipole kit.
Naming this antenna the backpacker is a bit crazy, it's fine to carry in the back of the Jeep, but it's no backpacking antenna.
Time to unload.
Antenna is in the golfbag type case, and radio in the Harbor Freight Pelican knockoff case. Rest of the stuff is for Gold prospecting...
Antenna case.
Antenna packed up.
Antenna base section. Actually there is one more piece like the top section below but I forgot it in the picture.
Center section with band selection.
Top section.
Band selection jumper.
Band selection set to 15m with hitech loss prevention device.
IC7000 in the case. I bought 4 of these @ $20ea when HF discontinued them. Wish I had more...
I forgot my little camp table for the radio so I had to improvise...
Setup complete. 11 Minutes from opening the back gate to hearing LX1DB in Luxembourg, time to take the pictures included.
I think I'll start caring 50' of coax instead of the 100'...
This antenna sets up/takes down fast enough to make it worth while to play HF out on the trail on a lunch stop or whatever. I was checking out the Black Hill Back Country Biway between Safford and Clifton and stopped for lunch when these were taken. In less than a hour I had Lunch, plus Luxembourg, Croatia, and France in the log.
