    Default Field day Frequency?

This may be dumb Question, but is there a frequency I can tune in to hear the Field day? I realize you are brodacasting on several bandwiths, but I cannot seem to locate any thing. I am in the Verde Valley, using a HT. I figure I am close enough to hear something.

We are sometimes monitoring 146.92 - offset, PL 162.2, and sometimes monitoring 147.52 simplex. As for the operating frequency and mode; that changes as conditions change. We were on the 20 meter band most of the day, you can expect us to be on either 40 or 80 meters throughout the night. But at any given time, we may be on SSB, CW, or a digital mode. This is up to the discretion of the control operator at the moment. At times, the control operator may be calling CQ on a given frequency. At other times, the control operator may use the "hunt and pounce" approach. Again, this depends on current conditions.

I know this is alittle late but in general most of the field day activities are on the HF frequencies, which you more than likely don't have on your HT (the exception is if you have an HT that does 6 meters you may be able to monitor some activity there). (please correct me if I am off base) I am guessing that the 2 meter repeater frequency used is just for "coordination" of the team (ie "hey, dinners done get back to camp") as you cannot get points using a repeater. There may be some qso's happening on the simplex frequencies but given the distance restraints of simplex fm in most cases this is limited ( there may be more happening in vhf using SSB but you wont be able to pick that up with your HT)

We've attempted to post our operating frequency in past events and it's just not doable. If you post a frequency ahead of time, that just guarantees that it'll be in use when you want to work there. FD covers most the HF bands which results in us jumping around and working bands as they open up or scanning frequencies to find an open spot to call CQ.

If you are running a multi-radio station, it makes sense to park on a frequency and call CQ with other operators scan the bands for QSOs. However, if you just park and call CQ with just one radio in operation, you are going to lose a lot of contact points. For the past couple of years we have run with one radio because multiple stations, unless you have the ops to man those stations for the entire contest, just drag down your score.
