Default APRS setup on 07 4Runner

    2007 4Runner
    Yaesu FTM-350R
    Garmin Nuvi 350
    Argent Data GTrans cable

    How it's hooked together

I really like this setup. It allows me to use the Nuvi instead of getting the Yaesu GPS attachment. Basically how it works is the Nuvi 350 is the only Garmin Nuvi that had a software glitch that allowed updating to the waypoints rather than making bread crumbs. The GTrans cable goes to the back of the radio and to the side of the Nuvi. It allows me to see stations right on the map. I used to Panavise pedestal mount and a piece of painted sheet metal to mount the radio and the GPS to. No squeaks, and it's out of the way of all the controls and the airbag.

The pics don't really show it, but I remoted the mic to the middle console (moving the CB too) so both mics are really close to my right hand as I'm driving. Just got a 6 pin phone cord and a couple and it allows you to run the mic where ever you want in the vehicle. Couldn't be happier! Now I just have to get my FT-857 in there, but still debating on what HF antenna to run...

Great looking, clean install. I like the mount setup with the GPS.

Yeah, that's nice to have the radio and GPS together; very functional.

Unlike the GPS tracker in your phone, APRS can be turned off.

Oh yeah, hit the button and the beacons will stop transmitting.

On the Kenwood 710, you push the BCON button (turn BCON off) and the GPS and APRS receive continue to function, but it stops sending out your location.
