    Default TJ shocks

My 97 TJ is in need of shocks. They are the same ones that were there five years ago when I bought my rig. I didn't put a lot of miles on them, but I don't know how long they were there before either.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good all-purpose shock? I am not lifted and don't do a lot of extreme rock climbing - just desert trails and washes. I would like to improve the ride a bit.

Also, how difficult a job is this? Should I tackle it on my own?

Sounds like a perfect time for a lift.

I helped a friend of mine put a lift on his TJ a while back and just swapping shocks should be a piece of cake. You shouldn't have to remove the springs or anything like that. You've got lots of good choices for shocks. Bilstein 4600s maybe? They're about $400 for the set which is about what any decent set will cost.

I was going to suggest Bilstein also. Rancho are also popular/good shocks. I also had Rubicon Express on my XJ and they had a good ride.

Sounds good... I will look into a lift kit and see how much is involved. I really don't need more than two inches.
