Default HF from remote camp in northern AZ

This is now a past event.

    Hey guys,
I'm camping in NW AZ until Sunday. I set up the HF antenna and radio last night and made a few contacts. I don't have cell service at camp, but have to hike 300 yards up a steep hill to make calls and check email.

Anyway, 40m and 80m seemed to work well last night. If anyone wants to try to make contact, I'll call cq around 7.210 at 7:30 pm mst the next few nights. If I don't here anything there I'll try 3.900 around 8 pm mst.

Try 40m tonight Around 7pm. 7.180 +/- I called cq on 7.223 for 15 minutes last night and didn't get any replies. I'm probably going to run the generator tonight and hook up the laptop to work psk31.

I'll be on the road this weekend. Let's set up a time to try a 20m sked. How about noon mst on 14.240mhz? I'll also try and catch you on your other frequencies.

Ok. I'll shoot for that. Made contacts in Georgia and Washington last night. Checked into a couple 80m nets too.

Tried you on 20m. Didn't hear you but had a good mobile to mobile qso with a guy in virgina.

Will try tonight on 40 and 75. Also I can't make it down to 3.900 with the mobile. Can you pick a freq between 3.950-4.000?

We almost made contact on 40m Virgil. I heard you call me but by the time you finished with n9zv I couldn't get back to you. We were close but could quite close the link.

Yeah, I heard you talking to the guy on 7.198 on Saturday night. I caught the end of the conversation and heard you tell them you were going 80 mph on the Oklahoma turnpike from St. Louis to Chandler. As soon as they cleared I tried calling you and talked to one of the guys from Chicago for a few minutes. I thought it was W0 something. I never did get his full call sign. He was coming in 59, but had a hard time hearing me. You were down in the noise, but I could have talked to you I think. Your signal was about a 33.

Anyway, I had fun playing with HF each night. I had a few lengthy QSOs with a station in Washington state and another with a gentleman in Woodstock, Georgia. I also jumped on 80 meters and checked into a net or two there. That's the first time I've really worked 80 meters since the antenna I have at home will only tune down to 20 and 40 meters.

No, I wasn't running APRS. Not sure if it would have even got out in the canyon I was in.

I managed to take 1 picture of my antenna setup. My 102' G5RV is supported by tripod/fiberglass poles on the left and center and then I attached the other end through the D-rings on the front bumper of my XJ in the distance.
