Default Auxiliary speaker for a mobile rig?

    Hi everyone,

So I pulled the trigger and bought a kenwood dm-710a. I'm trying to figure out where to install it. A buddy is going to help me install this as it's my first ham radio jeep install. He recommends I get an auxiliary speaker for it.

First, do you agree that this is important? Second, do you have a recommendation of a good one?

    Thanks for your help!

I use the MFJ speakers that Ham Radio Outlet sells for approximately $12. They work well in the mobile install.

I like to mount a aux speaker on the roll bar or seat headrest right behind my head. Makes hearing the radio so much easier.
I use the radio shack (19-318) Compact communications external speaker. It's the perfect size to mount under the headrest, unfortunately I don't think it's available anymore.

That's the thoughts of a fool, thinking out loud.

I went the cheap route and visited Radio Shack. They have several offerings in-store that resemble this option I found on-line:
    Powered Speaker

I visited a local store that happened to be having a clearance on two of the old 7W powered models that look like something out of the Dukes of Hazzard and got 'em for $4.99 each. I use one with my D710 and it works great. A SIGNIFICANT improvement over the stock internal speaker. I'd recommend getting a powered speaker, especially if you're in a 4x4 with any amount of road noise, tire noise, etc. Plus it's nice to listen above the noise if you want to drive with the windows down/top off when the Wx is nice.
