My schedule has been berserk lately. I'm signing up and clearing the calendar. Good to see the number of people that have already signed up.

How is the road to the FD site? Since I won't be driving my RV to Duncan for 7qp I thought I might drive it to FD instead (I originally was going to rough it for FD since fuel is so expensive, I could't afford to drive it to both!)

Is the FD site *easily* accessible?

I'm down as a 'possible' right now (mostly depends on how much vacation time I accrue before the FD weekend). I have an Alinco DX-70 which is capable of SSB and CW on 6m, just need an antenna and a key. I also have my telescope mount which could be tasked for satellite work; it is motorized, capable of being controlled via computer and I have software available that will allow it to track satellite passes. If we can come up with some way to mount an antenna on this mount it would be a lot easier than the method we attempted last year, then I could download elements for the hamsats we want to attempt and let the computer/mount combo do the hard part

    Default Field Day Fire Restrictions

    FYI

    For Immediate Release

    Date: May 5, 2011
    Contact: Coconino Supervisor's Office - 928-527-3600

Flagstaff, AZ —Officials with the Coconino National Forest will implement fire restrictions on Friday, May 6. Due to increasing fire danger, these restrictions are deemed necessary to prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public health and safety.

The restrictions prohibit fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves outside of developed campgrounds and limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles or buildings or in developed campgrounds. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters meeting safety specifications will continue to be allowed.

The fire restrictions will remain in place until the Forest receives significant precipitation. Violation of the prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000, imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest land.

For additional information on fire restrictions on the Coconino National Forest, please call 928-527-3600. For information on fire restrictions on public lands across Arizona and New Mexico, call 877-864-6985 or see http://www.publiclands.org/firenews/AZ.php

They have lifted the fire restrictions effective today. This doesn't mean they will put them back into effect before June 25th though. Hopefully it stays wet this year.

Fire restrictions to be lifted on Coconino National Forest

    For Immediate Release

    Date: May 19, 2011

    Contact: Coconino Supervisor's Office - 928-527-3600

Flagstaff, AZ —Campfire and smoking restrictions will be lifted on the Coconino National Forest beginning Friday at 8 a.m. Recent rains along with higher humidity and increased fuel moistures have lowered fire danger on the forest, thus decreasing the risk of major wildfires.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to practice fire safety and prevent human-caused fires. Although campfires and smoking will be allowed throughout the forest, people should never leave a campfire unattended. Campers should make sure they pack a shovel and about five to six gallons of water to extinguish their campfire completely before leaving,” says Coconino Fire Staff Officer Russ Copp.

Forest visitors are also reminded that campfire restrictions may vary on different national forests. Please call the nearest land management office or 877-864-6985 for current information or see http://www.publiclands.org/firenews/AZ.php online.
For additional information please see www.coconinoforest.us or call the Coconino National Forest at 928-527-3600.

Here's some pictures of the proposed site, I'm going to request some extra days off and may head up early so that I smell extra gamey for the event
This may also be my only chance at getting away this summer as our work load looks hectic, thus my reason for the wife & I to head up early.

    Ezekiel 25:17
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!

The area surrounding the Rim is some of the best camping in Arizona, Lake Knoll is probably my favorite along forest road 300. Anyways that site looks great I will hopefully attend with my ridgeback Luna! Does anyone do any target shooting during FD?

I'm not sure if we'll be able to. Personally I don't mind nor would I mind a lil plinking myself, but would need to check out the forest service regs to make sure the burn restrictions don't also restrict fire arms too.

Usually when they put fire restrictions in place, that includes no shooting. Apparently bullets will hit rocks and make sparks and burn the world down. If it's not restricted by the forest service and done in a safe manner, I don't see why you couldn't target practice. We are right on the edge of the rim though and I don't know if there is sufficient backstops in the area.

    From Coconino National Forest website-
    Are guns permitted?

The Federal Rules for firearm use is the following: 1) no shooting within a 150 yards from a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site or occupied area, 2) no shooting across a road, trail or body of water, or in any manner or place whereby any person property is exposed to injury or damage as a result of such discharge, 3) no shooting in a cave. For state law regarding firearm use please contact a state or local office to get the best information.

There is no restriction on shooting while fire restrictions are in place unless specifically stated in the text of the warning. As previously stated I am very familiar with the area and sure we could find a nice spot not too far from the FD site if there are others that want to do some plinking! Just gonna throw that out there and if you don't like it just send it right back!
